Earl Thomas and the Seattle Seahawks spent the last NFL season proving they are the best football team in the world—and Wednesday night they were honored as the best team in all of sports.

The Seahawks were honored with the ESPY for Best Team at the 2014 award show at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

ET III took the stage with his teammates behind him and held the newest addition to the team’s crowded trophy case as quarterback Russell Wilson made a brief speech on the squad’s behalf.

“Just to be up here against all the teams that were nominated, it’s truly special,” Wilson said. “There were so many great teams, and we’re so grateful. We put the hard work in every day and there are a lot of guys up here who have been told ‘no’ before. God’s just so good to us to let us be up here tonight.”

Seattle claimed the award ahead of the World Series champion Boston Red Sox, Stanley Cup winning Los Angeles Kings, NBA champion San Antonio Spurs, NCAA football National Champion  Florida State Seminoles and the NCAA women’s basketball National Champion Connecticut Huskies.

Earl’s teammate and fellow Legion of Boom member Richard Sherman won the ESPY for Best Breakthrough Athlete.

Together they anchored the top defense in football and were a cornerstone in the squad’s Super Bowl run, which culminated with a 43-8 dismantling of the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. Wilson also tipped his cap to Seattle head coach Pete Carroll.

“Obviously we have to thank coach Carroll for how he leads us everyday,” said the Seahawks QB, as Earl stood behind him, trophy in hand. “He is so motivating, and the way he comes into work, his consistency and his approach to us is unbelievable. Playing for that guy is truly special.”

Behind the special coach and special players was a truly special fan base. ESPY host Drake joked that if Seattle’s CenturyLink Field were any louder, Oklahoma City Thunder Russell Westbrook—who is known for wearing garish clothing—would be wearing it.

Wilson closed his speech also thanking the boisterous 12th Man, as well as the rest of the Seahawks players.

“At the end of the day, these players behind me, they worked so hard everyday,” Wilson said. “That’s why we were able to find a way to win in tough times. We’re just so grateful to be up here.”

“Most of all, thanks to our 12th Man fans. To win the first ever super bowl in our franchise’s history is truly special and we’re excited we were able to bring that back to Seattle. Go Hawks!”
