As NFL Training Camps opened across the country this week, Earl Thomas found himself training in a different location than usual.
While Earl continues his holdout from Seahawks camp, waiting for a resolution to his contract situation —via a contract extension with Seattle, or a trade to a team that will extend his contract— he and a few of his training partners made the trip out to Cleveland. There they met up with Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith, who is getting ready for the upcoming NBA season, and utilized the Cavs’ practice facility.
But his time in Cleveland is par for the course this summer, as he’s been in non-stop training mode, staying in tremendous shape and working himself to the limit on a daily basis, despite not being around a team or camp since Seattle’s season ended in January.
And he’s been doing so while visiting friends and going on trips with his family. It’s a delicate balance, but one Earl has found the perfect measure of. Before his trip to Cleveland, Earl was in the desert with his daughters and his wife Nina, visiting the Grand Canyon. Family is extremely important to ETIII, and he enjoyed spending time with his girls, including a helicopter ride over and into one of nature’s true gems.
And before that trip, Earl could be found hitting the gym hard, wherever his travels have taken him. Earl knows that, even as he makes a statement by staying away from Seattle’s camp, in order to keep himself ready for the upcoming season, he must work with the very best to be his very best.
And, make no mistake, Earl has every intention of continuing to be the very best free safety in the league, as soon as his contract situation is resolved one way or another.
