As Earl Thomas III aims to fuel the Seattle Seahawks to their second straight NFL crown at Super Bowl XLIX, he’ll do so wearing a shoe with championship history.

Thursday Earl revealed the Air Jordan VII cleat he will wear as the Hawks take on the New England Patriots at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

According to a Nike release, the Jordan VII made its debut when originator Michael Jordan won his second NBA championship for the Chicago Bulls in 1992, defeating the Portland Trail Blazers.

Like the meeting between the Pats and the Hawks, the 1992 NBA Finals featured the No. 1 seeds from both conferences. New England and Seattle both finished the regular season atop their leagues at 12-4 and used home-field advantage to earn Super Bowl berths.

“Featuring an action green and navy upper, the Air Jordan VII cleat is certain to shine under the bright lights,” said the Nike announcement. “A chrome plate nods to the ultimate prize, the championship trophy, and an updated Air Jordan VII graphic on the tongue and heel pays homage to the brand’s award-winning history.”
