As much as Earl Thomas III is known for his on-field performance, the Super Bowl champion is also recognized as a leader in his work to help serve families in need.

In both his hometown of Orange, Texas and his adopted city of Seattle, ET III is known for his penchant to give back to the communities that have given so much to him. That is why Earl founded his Guardian Angel Foundation in 2013 and why on Nov. 17, the foundation will host its first event in the Seattle area.

Called “Seahawks and Steaks,” the night will see ET III and his teammates become waitstaff as they serve a four-course meal to guests at Daniel’s Broiler in Bellevue, Washington.

“I’m very excited,” Earl told Seahawks.com. “It’s just another step in my journey. Just finding who I am and trying to be the best possible person I can and see what I can do to impact this community. And this is a great chance to do that.”

The core values instilled in Earl by his father Earl Thomas Jr., and his grandfather Earl Thomas Sr., as well as ET III’s own experience of having Hurricane Rita destroy his family home in 2005, motivated him to give back.

The foundation of my beliefs, the reason I’m able to have those surfboard shoulders, is because I’ve been through it,” Earl said. “I’ve been through the brokenness. I’ve been through the blue-collar mentality. I have a balance in my life. I know what it is to struggle, and I know what it is to have a lot of success. And I know what it is to keep that balance so you can keep reaching those unreachable goals that everybody else thought you never could reach.”

While Seahawks and Steaks is the first event the Guardian Angel Foundation is hosting in Seattle, it is far from the only program that the foundation has in the cards for the city.

Guardian Angel also has plans for the upcoming holiday season, including providing winter clothing for youth in need and hosting families at a Seattle mall where they can meet Santa and have a unique holiday shopping experience.

These programs come in addition to the similar initiatives Earl has taken in Orange.

Most notably, the free youth football camp that Earl has run for the past three years continually draws in and inspires hundreds of local youth.

“This foundation has a chance to affect and build relationships…I get to meet a lot of great people. I’ve met a lot of people who are leaders in this community and I’ve learned so much from that,” Earl said. “So this whole task I’m taking right now, it’s a great learning experience and it’s developing me as a man, too.”
