Since high school, I’ve only played football for two men, Pete Carroll and my college coach, Mack Brown. Monday was the last game in Coach Brown’s career at Texas, and as he retires, I want to share some of the respect I have for him.

Mack Brown gave me my first shot to even step on the grass out of high school. Without that opportunity he gave me, I wouldn’t be sitting here in the position I’m in. So I definitely appreciate him for giving me that chance. I’m grateful for that. Anytime you get an opportunity, you have to be thankful, and he was the guy who gave me the opportunity to start a career.

More than that, Mack Brown is a great guy. He could’ve run for President and still could and he would make some noise. That’s how much everybody in Texas loves him.

It’s going to be weird to see somebody other than him leading the Longhorns out there next year. Texas Football is such a great tradition and part of that tradition is Mack Brown. It’s going to be different without him there. He brought us up from losing ways to winning ways. He left his fingerprints all over that place.
